Bareilly: A review meeting of the Marriage Grant Schemes operated by the Social Welfare Department and the Backward Class Welfare Department was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Avinash Singh. The meeting was attended by public representatives and departmental officials.
During the meeting, elected representatives suggested organizing mass marriage ceremonies on an Assembly constituency-wise basis during the current financial year. They also emphasized the need to increase beneficiary targets to ensure wider coverage of eligible families.
District Social Welfare Officer Sudhanshu Shekhar informed the meeting that nearly 6,000 applications have already been received under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. He further stated that under the Marriage Grant Scheme administered by the Social Welfare Department, a target of 1,285 beneficiaries has been allotted, including 672 beneficiaries from the Scheduled Caste category and 613 from the General category. Funds for the marriage assistance of 153 girls from the General category have already been received, while the remaining budget is expected shortly.
The District Backward Class Welfare Officer reported that the department has been assigned a target of 2,367 beneficiaries. Against this, budget allocation has been received for 1,183 beneficiaries, while the remaining funds are expected soon. He added that 789 applications have been received so far under the scheme.
Among those present at the meeting were MLA Dr. M.P. Arya (Nawabganj), MLA Dr. Raghvendra Sharma (Bithri Chainpur), MLC Bahoran Lal Maurya, representatives of other public representatives, District Magistrate Avinash Singh, District Social Welfare Officer Sudhanshu Shekhar, and District Backward Class Welfare Officer.
