Mumbai: For businesses setting up a new office, Vastu is often something that gets considered after the property has been purchased and the interiors are already underway. According to Vastu consultant Gauri Jain, that can make corrections far more difficult and expensive.
“One of the most common Vastu mistakes businesses make is checking Vastu only after the office has been constructed or interiors are completed,” she says.
By that point, fundamental elements such as the entrance, shape of the property and internal layout may already be fixed. Gauri therefore recommends bringing Vastu into the decision-making process much earlier.
“Vastu should ideally be checked at the initial stage, while selecting the plot or property itself, because the direction, shape, slope, entrance and surrounding environment are difficult and expensive to correct later,” she explains.
There are several other mistakes she frequently encounters once businesses move into a space. “Other common mistakes include an unsuitable main entrance, placing the owner’s cabin in the wrong zone, blocking the North-East with heavy storage, incorrect placement of toilets or the staircase, and ignoring the functional requirements of different zones such as the South-East for fire, electrical and technology-related activities,” Gauri says.
However, discovering these issues does not necessarily mean an office needs to undergo an expensive renovation. “These issues can often be corrected through appropriate planning, repositioning of workstations and cabins, decluttering, colour and element balance, and suitable Vastu modifications,” she says.
Still, Gauri believes prevention remains preferable to correction. For businesses that have not yet finalised a property, she recommends assessing the space before making a commitment.
“The best approach is to assess Vastu before purchasing or finalising the plot, so that the building layout and business functions can be planned correctly from the beginning,” she ended.
