Lucknow Police Arrest ₹50,000 Rewarded Fugitive in Kidnapping for Ransom Case

SWAT and Surveillance Team Nab Wanted Accused from Ghaziabad Industrial Area

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the SWAT/Surveillance Team of Lucknow Commissionerate Police, in coordination with Chinhat Police Station, has arrested a wanted and rewarded accused involved in a kidnapping-for-ransom case registered under Case Crime No. 389/24 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The arrested accused, Sanjay (30), son of Jayaprakash, resident of Tisauli village under Khuthan police station, Jaunpur, was carrying a reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest. He was apprehended on June 1, 2026 from the Ghaziabad Industrial Area bus stop following a targeted operation by the joint police teams.

Case Background

According to police records, the case was originally registered on August 21, 2024, on the complaint of Karmveer Singh, a resident of Amrai village under Baba Bazar police station in Ayodhya district. The complainant alleged kidnapping for ransom, leading to the registration of a case against Sanjay and other accused persons.

Earlier, on August 22, 2024, police had arrested two co-accused — Ravinder Singh and Zeeshan Ahmad alias Ahmad Kalam — and later another accused Manoj Verma was also arrested on October 12, 2024, in connection with the same case.

However, accused Sanjay had been absconding for a long period and repeatedly evaded arrest. Following his continued absence, the court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW), and proceedings under Sections 84 and 85 of BNSS were initiated, including attachment of his immovable property on November 11, 2025. He was also declared a proclaimed offender by the court.

Given the seriousness of the case, senior police officials constituted dedicated teams to trace and apprehend the accused. A reward of ₹50,000 was also announced for his arrest.

Arrest Operation

Acting on intelligence inputs, the SWAT and Surveillance teams successfully tracked the accused to Ghaziabad, where he was arrested without incident. Police said the operation was carried out with precision under the supervision of senior officers.

Following his arrest, the accused was taken into police custody and further legal proceedings are underway.

Criminal History

Police records reveal that the arrested accused has multiple prior cases registered against him in various police stations in Ayodhya district, including charges related to cheating, forgery, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy.

Official Statement

Lucknow Police stated that continuous and coordinated operations against organized crime are being carried out in the commissionerate. The successful arrest of the rewarded fugitive reflects the effectiveness of SWAT and surveillance units.

Officials added that strict legal action will continue against organized criminals, and efforts to maintain law and order and ensure citizen safety in Lucknow will remain ongoing.
