New Delhi/Kinshasa: India has stepped forward to support ongoing efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak in the eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), providing emergency medical assistance aimed at strengthening frontline healthcare operations and disease-control measures.
The shipment, comprising critical diagnostic tools, therapeutic medicines, infection-prevention supplies, and patient-care equipment, has been received by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), which described the assistance as a valuable contribution to the continent’s public health response.
Medical Supplies Routed Through Uganda
According to Africa CDC, the emergency supplies were delivered through its Eastern Regional Coordinating Centre in Uganda before being prepared for deployment to Ebola-affected areas in eastern Congo. During a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the first shipment had successfully reached Africa CDC through India’s diplomatic mission in Uganda.
He reiterated India’s commitment to standing alongside African nations during health crises and indicated that New Delhi remains ready to explore additional avenues of support if required.
