Yoga Is Nourishment for the Soul”: Amal Sehrawat on Finding Balance Amid a Busy Life

Mumbai: Known for his work in projects such as Sarkar 3, Satya 2, Choti Sarrdaarni, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Amal Sehrawat believes that true wellness goes beyond physical fitness. For the actor, yoga is a daily reminder to slow down, reconnect with himself, and find calm amidst the chaos of life. As the world celebrates International Yoga Day, Amal shares how this ancient practice has shaped his mindset, career, and overall approach to life.

Sharing what yoga means to him, Amal says, “For me, yoga is the coming together of the mind, body, and soul. Breath is what connects the body to the soul, and yoga teaches us to become aware of that connection. It brings a sense of balance, calmness, and peace that is hard to find elsewhere.”

Like many actors, Amal often juggles long working hours and unpredictable schedules. Yet, he makes an effort to keep yoga a part of his routine.
“My schedule can be quite hectic, but it really comes down to what you consider important. We never forget to feed our body, so why should we neglect something that nourishes the soul? That’s how I look at yoga,” he
says.

The actor believes that his practice has also benefited him professionally. According to him, yoga and Pranayama have played a significant role in helping him handle emotionally demanding scenes. “Acting requires a lot of emotional control and awareness. Yoga and breathing exercises have helped me stay centred during intense scenes. They allow me to remain present in the moment and express emotions honestly without getting carried away by them,” he shares.

Yoga has also changed the way Amal approaches food. While he still enjoys indulging occasionally, he says the practice has made him more mindful.
“It has helped me understand the difference between a craving and genuine hunger. At the same time, yoga teaches balance. I don’t believe in extreme restrictions, so I enjoy my favourite cheat meals every now and then without guilt,” he says with a smile.

In an industry where public scrutiny, criticism, and online trolling are part of daily life, Amal credits meditation and yoga for helping him maintain perspective. “The entertainment industry can be overwhelming at times. There are always opinions, judgments, and constant scrutiny. Yoga and meditation have taught me not to let that noise affect my peace of mind. They help me stay grounded and remind me that my self-worth isn’t determined by what others think of me. I’ve learned to respond calmly instead of reacting emotionally,” he explains.

Looking ahead, Amal hopes to deepen his practice rather than add something entirely new. “This Yoga Day, I want to focus on becoming more consistent with meditation and Pranayama. I would like to create more space for stillness and mindfulness in my everyday life. That’s something I’m consciously working towards,” he says.
