Gonda: The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday submitted a four-point memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) seeking relief and compensation for people affected by heavy rain, strong winds and flooding in the Tarabganj Assembly constituency.
The delegation, led by former Assembly candidate and senior party leader Ram Bhajan Chaubey, included K.T. Tiwari, member of the state executive, Vijay Singh Tintu, state secretary Dinesh Yadav, district vice-president Manoj Chaubey, party leader Vivek Singh Baba and former state vice-president of the Students’ Assembly.
The memorandum stated that several days of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and storms had disrupted normal life across Tarabganj tehsil and the Assembly constituency. Waterlogging has affected movement in towns and several villages in the Manjha belt along the Saryu River, while the flooding has also created difficulties in arranging fodder for livestock.
The party sought financial assistance for farmers whose sugarcane, paddy and maize crops were damaged or flattened by the adverse weather.
The delegation also demanded relief for families whose thatched residential houses and cattle sheds collapsed due to waterlogging. It called for the removal of thousands of fallen trees that have disrupted road connectivity and demanded restoration of electricity supplies in areas where power poles were brought down by strong winds.
Among those who submitted the memorandum were Dev Mani Tiwari, Ankur Tiwari, Rintu Singh, Rohit Chaubey, Dharmendra Tiwari, Dilip Pandey, Subedar Chaubey, Brijesh Chaubey and Kalika Prajapati, among others.
