Gonda: The All India Journalists Association, Gonda unit, submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police seeking impartial and effective action in connection with an alleged attack on journalist Satyam Mishra.
The memorandum, submitted by district president Rais Ahmed, highlighted the role of journalists in bringing public grievances and issues of public interest to the attention of the administration. The association said incidents involving assault, threats or pressure against journalists are a serious concern.
The organisation demanded a fair investigation into the alleged attack on Satyam Mishra, including an examination of the role of all those involved and action in accordance with the law. It also sought an impartial investigation into an alleged assault involving journalist Atul Tiwari and appropriate action against those found responsible.
The association urged the district administration to treat complaints of threats, assault or pressure against journalists seriously and ensure prompt action. It also called for stronger coordination and regular dialogue between the district administration and journalist organisations on matters concerning journalists’ safety.
The memorandum stressed the need for administrative measures to safeguard the safety, freedom and dignity of journalists while enabling them to carry out their professional responsibilities.
