Gonda: A joint enforcement drive by the district administration and Transport Department was conducted at Karnailganj crossing in Gonda to strengthen road safety and ensure better facilities for passengers travelling in buses operating under All-India Tourist Permits.
During the campaign, officials thoroughly checked bus permits, mandatory documents, safety equipment and compliance with traffic regulations. Three buses were challaned for various violations detected during the inspection. Bus operators and drivers were instructed to strictly comply with transport regulations and prescribed safety standards. Officials said enforcement action against vehicles violating the rules would continue.
The joint team also interacted with passengers to verify fares and the facilities being provided during journeys. Passengers said they had been charged the normally prescribed fare. Officials appealed to passengers to immediately report any instance of overcharging, inconvenience or other irregularities to the concerned authorities.
Drivers were specifically instructed not to consume intoxicants while driving, to observe speed limits and to avoid rash or dangerous driving. Operators were told to ensure that all emergency safety equipment remained available and functional in every vehicle, including fire extinguishers, emergency exits and first-aid boxes.
Officials further directed that medicines kept in first-aid kits be checked regularly and replaced every three months, or earlier if required.
The enforcement team said road safety is a shared responsibility and urged drivers and operators to follow all prescribed norms to protect passengers and other road users. Enforcement and awareness drives will continue to promote compliance with safety standards in passenger vehicles.
