Glasgow: India will begin its athletics campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Monday, with several medal prospects across athletics, weightlifting, boxing, swimming, gymnastics and para athletics expected to keep the country’s momentum going on Day Five of the competition.
The spotlight will be on the men’s high jump final, where Sarvesh Anil Kushare, Tejaswin Shankar and J. Adarsh Ram will challenge for podium finishes. Sprint hurdler Tejas Shirse will also begin his campaign in the men’s 110m hurdles, aiming to progress to the medal race later in the day.
India’s athletics schedule also includes Gurindervir Singh in the men’s 100m heats, while Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Satyanathan will compete in the men’s long jump qualification.
In para athletics, Sharmila Dhankhar and Shilpa K. Shaila will contest the women’s F57 shot put final, while Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Shreyansh Trivedi will compete in the men’s T38 100m final.
Weightlifting is expected to be another major source of medals for India. Gyaneshwari Yadav will compete in the women’s 53kg final, followed by Bindyarani Devi in the women’s 58kg event. V. Ajay Babu will round off the day’s campaign in the men’s 79kg final.

India’s boxing contingent also faces a busy day, with Sachin Siwach taking on England’s William Hewitt in the men’s 60kg round of 16, while Ankush meets Jalan Jan of Antigua and Barbuda in the men’s 80kg category. Sakshi Chaudhary will face Botswana’s Lethabo Modukanele in the women’s 51kg division, and Sumit Kundu will box against John McConnell of Northern Ireland in the men’s 70kg event.
In swimming, Olympian Sajan Prakash will compete in the men’s 200m butterfly heats and could return later for the final if he qualifies.
India will also have a medal opportunity in artistic gymnastics, where Pratishtha Samantha will compete in the women’s vault final.
India enters Day Five on the back of an impressive performance in weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu claimed a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s 48kg category, while Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi added silver medals in the men’s 60kg and 65kg events respectively. With athletics now underway and several finals scheduled across disciplines, India will look to significantly boost its medal tally in Glasgow.
