Lucknow: The Sarojininagar Police have arrested one wanted accused in connection with a dowry death case registered under Case Crime No. 197/2026 under Sections 80(2)/85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Case Background
According to police, a written complaint was lodged on May 29, 2026, by Smt. Roopa, wife of the late Rakesh Kumar, resident of Kankar Kuan under Bijnor police station, Lucknow. The complainant alleged that her daughter was harassed and tortured by her in-laws over dowry demands, which ultimately led to her death.
Based on the complaint, Sarojininagar Police immediately registered a case and launched an investigation. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the investigation was handed over to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Krishna Nagar, Lucknow.
During the investigation, evidence and statements collected pointed towards the involvement of the accused persons, following which search operations were initiated to arrest them.
Arrest Operation
Acting on a specific intelligence input from a confidential informer, the police team conducted a swift operation on June 1, 2026, and arrested the named accused Pawan Lodhi alias Golu, son of Pappu, resident of village Pipersand under Sarojininagar police station limits.

The accused was apprehended near Gahru underpass after being surrounded by the police team. His arrest marks a significant development in the investigation of the case.
Interrogation and Modus Operandi
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that he subjected his wife to physical and mental harassment over dowry demands. Due to continuous torture, the victim reportedly died by suicide by hanging on May 29, 2026.
Legal Action
Police officials confirmed that further legal proceedings are being carried out as per law and efforts are underway to complete the investigation at the earliest.
