Noida | The investigation into the death of an engineer who drowned in a pit in Noida is set to intensify after the district court ordered an expansion of the probe, terming the incident serious and alarming. Taking a stern view of the matter, the court expressed displeasure over apparent lapses and directed the police to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation, including examining the role of various departments.
During the hearing, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sanjeev Kumar Tripathi expressed strong concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident. The court observed that, prima facie, the case does not appear to be a mere accident and that negligence by multiple authorities could be involved. The police have been instructed to widen the scope of investigation and identify all departments, authorities and officials whose actions or inaction may have contributed to the tragedy.
Builder Sent to Judicial Custody Till January 27
In a significant development, the court ordered that the accused builder, Abhay Kumar, be sent to judicial custody until January 27. The court made it clear that the accused would remain in jail until the investigation progresses further, ensuring that the probe is not influenced or obstructed in any manner.
Departmental Lapses Under Scanner
The CJM also underlined the need to investigate possible departmental negligence, stating that several agencies and authorities may have failed in their responsibilities. The police have been directed to examine whether safety norms were violated and whether concerned departments overlooked critical lapses that ultimately led to the engineer’s death.
Further Action After Detailed Investigation
Following the court’s directions, the police will now carry out a detailed investigation to fix accountability, not only of the builder but also of development authorities and other concerned departments. Further legal action will be decided based on the findings of the expanded probe.
