Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, organised an essay writing competition for students of the university campus and its affiliated colleges as part of the events leading up to the institution’s 24th Convocation Ceremony. The initiative was held under the inspiration of Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel and the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, with the University’s Cultural Centre coordinating the programme.
Students were invited to write on topics prescribed by Raj Bhavan, Lucknow, covering subjects of national importance, including the Indian and global economy, developmental initiatives undertaken by the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments, and notable achievements in the fields of medicine, agriculture, education and technology over the past decade. Participants impressed the judges with their originality, analytical thinking and creative presentation of ideas.
The competition aimed to enhance students’ writing skills, logical reasoning, critical thinking and awareness of contemporary issues. It provided a platform for young minds to articulate informed opinions while strengthening their intellectual and communication abilities.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh said the initiative was organised in accordance with directions received from Raj Bhavan. He noted that, in addition to university and college students, similar competitions had been conducted this year for students from primary to intermediate levels in the university’s adopted villages. All cultural competitions and activities in these villages had been completed successfully, while the university-level essay contest served as an effective medium for promoting intellectual and creative growth among students.
He emphasised that such competitions encourage deep reflection, logical analysis and effective expression among the youth while nurturing national consciousness, social responsibility and a positive outlook towards society.

Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey said detailed instructions had been circulated well in advance to government, aided, constituent and self-financed affiliated colleges. Institutions have been organising the competition and regularly submitting reports to the Cultural Centre through email. The final date for submitting reports is July 17, 2026, after which a consolidated report will be sent to Raj Bhavan.
Students from across affiliated colleges and the university campus participated enthusiastically, displaying remarkable writing talent and analytical depth. The event was successfully organised with the support of Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey, Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Dr. Reena Pant, and the principals and faculty members of participating colleges.
