Aligarh — Police have arrested four individuals, including a minor, involved in a daring daylight robbery at a cold drink warehouse in the New Basti area of Bannadevi police station limits in Aligarh. The incident occurred on March 15, when the robbers brandished a country-made pistol (tamanchas) and knives to threaten the elderly warehouse operator and fled with cash.
Robbery Captured on CCTV
According to the FIR filed by Sunny Narayan, the owner of the warehouse, the robbery took place when he had gone home for lunch, leaving his father at the warehouse with staff members. Two masked miscreants stormed in, held a pistol and knife to his father’s head, and looted approximately Rs 1 lakh from the cash counter. The entire act was captured on CCTV, which helped the police identify the culprits.
Arrests Made Near Numaiash Ground
Following the FIR at Bannadevi police station, two teams—Bannadevi Police and Criminal Intelligence Unit—began tracking the accused. On Tuesday, police arrested the suspects near Numaiash Ground. The arrested individuals include:
- Sagar, son of Sunil, resident of Kaveri Vatika, Quarsi
- Jardan alias Faheem Khan, son of Pappan, resident of New Basti, Bannadevi
- Priyanshu Gupta, son of Deepak Kumar, resident of Kaveri Vatika
- One minor (name withheld)
Weapons and Loot Recovered
Police recovered Rs 15,200 in stolen cash, a country-made pistol, illegal cartridges, and the knife used in the robbery. Investigation revealed that two accused entered the warehouse, while the other two waited outside as lookouts.
History of Criminal Activity
According to Inspector Pankaj Mishra, the accused are habitual offenders with multiple cases already registered against them. The identities were confirmed through CCTV footage, and during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. They were produced before court and sent to jail.
The swift action by Aligarh police has brought relief to local residents and business owners, highlighting the importance of surveillance and community policing in curbing street-level crimes.
