Lucknow: A case of alleged online fraud has surfaced in the Dubagga area’s Amrapali Yojana locality, where a student who ordered a car display unit online found the package stuffed with soil instead of the product he’d paid for. The student opened the parcel in front of the delivery agent on Tuesday afternoon and recorded the entire episode on video. He has since filed a written complaint with the police, demanding action.
According to the student, 11th-grader Raja Chauhan, he had ordered a head unit for his car’s display system from a private company’s website on August 4, paying ₹1,999 online via UPI through Bank of Baroda. On Tuesday around 3:30 pm, delivery agent Arun arrived with the parcel. When it was opened in front of him, the box turned out to contain soil instead of the display unit.
Demand for a Refund Turns Tense
Raja said that when he raised the issue, the delivery agent told him he’d have to file a complaint with the company itself. Frustrated, the student took the keys to the delivery agent’s motorbike and refused to return them until his payment was refunded. The delivery agent then called the police via the 112 helpline. When police arrived at the scene, they reprimanded the student and had the bike keys returned to the agent, who then left.
The student says he has video of the entire incident as well as CCTV footage from cameras outside his home, and has asked police to investigate and take action. Inspector Shrikant Rai confirmed that the police have been informed of the incident and that an investigation is underway.
