Lucknow: Following the brutal rape and murder of a woman in Lucknow, the Yogi Adityanath government has taken a strict stance and announced mandatory verification of all auto and e-rickshaw drivers across Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath stated that any driver with a criminal record or involved in illegal activities will face strict police action. The directive was issued during a law and order meeting on Sunday evening, where the CM addressed Lucknow Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar.
The CM expressed concern over the incident, which took place near Alambagh bus stand, where a woman was abducted and murdered. He criticized the police, stating that the crime could have been prevented if there had been better monitoring of auto and e-rickshaw drivers.
In a video conference with all 75 district SPs and DMs, CM Adityanath issued a stern warning, emphasizing that such an incident must not be repeated anywhere in the state.
This move comes as part of the government’s efforts to enhance women’s safety and strengthen law enforcement in public transport sectors.
