Raebareli: The Department of ENT at AIIMS Raebareli organised a public awareness programme during International Week of Deaf People, focusing on the theme “Declaration of the Human Rights of Deaf People.”
The programme aimed to raise awareness among patients, attendants and the general public about the rights of deaf and hard-of-hearing people, early identification of hearing loss, timely assessment, rehabilitation and access to effective communication methods.
Executive Director of AIIMS Raebareli, Prof. (Dr.) Amita Jain, highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive healthcare environment. She said AIIMS Raebareli remains committed to providing accessible, comprehensive and sensitive healthcare services to people facing difficulties with hearing and communication.
Dr Neeraj Srivastava, Prof. Bholanath and Dr Shruti Sinha shared their views during the programme, stressing the importance of early detection and timely intervention for hearing loss. They also emphasised creating an environment that enables people with hearing disabilities to participate fully in society.
The ENT department highlighted hearing rehabilitation services available at AIIMS Raebareli, including evaluation and rehabilitation support associated with cochlear implants for eligible individuals with severe hearing loss.
The session also addressed common misconceptions surrounding deafness and emphasised that hearing disability should not prevent individuals from accessing education, healthcare and employment or from participating fully in social life with dignity.
The initiative reflected AIIMS Raebareli’s focus on patient-centred and inclusive healthcare while promoting greater awareness of hearing health and the rights of people with hearing disabilities.
