New Delhi: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has secured a major contract worth ₹1,251 crore from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of an indigenous Ground Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System (GBMES) to the Indian Army. The deal marks a significant boost to BEL’s order book and reinforces India’s ongoing push for self-reliance in defence technology.
The GBMES is a state-of-the-art electronic intelligence platform designed by the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad, and will be manufactured by BEL. The system is capable of detecting, classifying, and locating radar emissions, as well as intercepting and analysing communication signals, making it a critical asset for modern battlefield intelligence.
As a network-centric solution, the GBMES is expected to significantly enhance situational awareness and strengthen air defence preparedness. The system’s advanced capabilities underline the growing emphasis on indigenous innovation in India’s defence ecosystem.
The announcement had a positive impact on investor sentiment, with BEL shares closing near their intraday high of ₹436.30 on the NSE.
The latest order builds on BEL’s consistent order inflow momentum. In April, the company secured additional contracts worth ₹569 crore across segments such as avionics, electronic warfare systems, communication equipment, and laser-based technologies.

For FY26, BEL reported total order inflows of around ₹30,000 crore, including export orders worth $346 million. Export sales rose by 33.6% to $141.9 million, reflecting rising global demand for its defence electronics portfolio.
Operationally, the company has posted strong financial performance. In the third quarter of FY26, BEL reported a 23.7% year-on-year increase in revenue to ₹7,122 crore. EBITDA rose 28% to ₹2,117 crore, while net profit grew 20.8% to ₹1,590 crore, driven by improved margins and efficient execution.
With a robust pipeline of defence contracts and a clear focus on indigenous capabilities, Bharat Electronics Limited continues to consolidate its position as a key pillar of India’s defence electronics sector.
