Akhilesh Yadav Alleges BJP Prioritising Corporate Interests Over Public Welfare

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the ruling party’s politics based on both “religion” and “wealth” had reached its end.

In a statement, Yadav claimed that despite a decline in global crude oil prices, the benefits were not being passed on to Indian consumers through lower petrol and diesel prices. He alleged that while citizens in several countries had benefited from reduced fuel costs, the BJP-led government had failed to lower prices in India and was instead favouring large corporations.

The Samajwadi Party chief accused the government of pursuing policies that, according to him, prioritize corporate profits over public welfare. He argued that rising prices of fuel and other commodities were contributing to inflation and increasing the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

Yadav further alleged that India’s pricing system for petroleum products and other essential goods was not functioning according to normal market principles of demand and supply. He claimed that inflation and rising costs were linked to what he described as a system benefiting corporate interests, resulting in higher expenses for transportation, food items, and other consumer goods.

The former chief minister also criticized the BJP’s political approach, asserting that its strategy centered around religious issues had lost public support. He alleged that the party would increasingly focus on financial and electoral considerations, which, according to him, could lead to higher levels of corruption and inflation.

Referring to recent controversies related to donations and religious offerings, Yadav claimed that public trust in the BJP had been affected. He said that people with strong religious beliefs would reject any benefits derived from what he described as unethical practices.

Concluding his remarks, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that revelations concerning donations, contributions, and offerings had weakened both the BJP’s “religious” and “financial” political narratives. He maintained that the party was facing growing public scrutiny and political challenges.

The BJP had not immediately responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report
