Modi and Trump Stress Maintaining Momentum in Strengthening India-US Trade Ties

New Delhi/Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a cordial telephone conversation, underlining the importance of sustaining momentum in boosting bilateral trade and advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

The discussion, occurring amid ongoing negotiations for a Bilateral Trade Agreement, focused on deepening cooperation across key sectors, including critical technologies, energy, defence, and security. Both leaders highlighted the strategic value of initiatives such as the India-US COMPACT framework—Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce, and Technology—to drive innovative collaborations.

Prime Minister Modi described the conversation on X as “very warm and engaging,” noting that the leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments. They reaffirmed their commitment to global peace, stability, and prosperity while addressing pressing challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

The call also highlighted potential avenues for joint ventures in defence manufacturing, intelligence sharing, and energy cooperation, including clean energy and nuclear deals. Technology collaboration, spanning semiconductors, AI, quantum computing, and space, was emphasised as a frontier for bilateral growth.

Analysts say the conversation reinforces the trajectory of high-level engagements between India and the US, aiming to accelerate progress in trade, technological collaboration, and strategic security, while positioning both nations as pillars of stability in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
