Hooda’s will prevails, Rahul Gandhi’s plan backfires

Chandigarh: An expected alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could not be formed in Haryana assembly elections. After the talks on seat sharing could not be finalized, Aam Aadmi Party released the list of 20 candidates. The name of AAP’s state president Dr. Sushil Gupta is not included in the first list, while senior vice president Anurag Dhanda will contest from Kalayat assembly seat of Kaithal district. This list also does not have the name of any disgruntled leader of BJP or Congress.

Releasing the list, AAP’s state president and other senior leaders have said that they could not wait much for Congress’ decision. The alliance could not be stitched when former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and organization general secretary KC Venugopal wanted an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party. But former Chief Minister of the state Bhupendra Singh Hooda was against this alliance from the very first day. In this way, Rahul Gandhi’s wish remained unfulfilled and Hooda’s will prevailed on the alliance.

However, AAP state president Dr. Sushil Gupta had clearing the air said that if Congress does not clarify its position on the alliance in time, then his party will decide its candidates on all 90 seats. Meanwhile, several rounds of talks took place between Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria and AAP’s Raghav Chaddha. Chaddha also spoke of a positive atmosphere.

At the national level, both Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party are part of the INDIA alliance with Congress. The distribution of seats in the Lok Sabha elections was a compulsion for these political parties. But Rahul Gandhi wanted to continue this political love-love in the future as well by forming an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party in the Haryana assembly elections.

Samajwadi Party in Haryana

The party was demanding half a dozen assembly seats from Congress which are Muslim and Yadav dominated, including Julana, Sohna, Hathin and Dadri. Since Congress is demanding some seats from Samajwadi Party in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was also pressurizing for seats in Haryana, which did not work. Due to the alliance with AAP not working out, all possibilities with Samajwadi Party also diminished.

BJP will benefit from no alliance

BJP will benefit from the lack of alliance between Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party with Congress in the state. BJP is claiming its hold on non-Jat votes, while Congress claims to have Jat and Dalit votes. If AAP’s vote bank had gone to Congress, BJP would have suffered.

AAP leader said – workers were getting restless

Releasing the list, AAP state president Dr. Sushil Gupta and senior vice president Anurag Dhanda said that they waited for the message of the high command. Since the last date of nomination is coming near and restlessness was increasing among the workers. Therefore, we have released the list of our candidates. We were fully prepared to contest on 90 seats.

These are the reasons for Hooda not forming an alliance

* In the Lok Sabha elections, Congress had given only one seat to Aam Aadmi Party, Kurukshetra, on which it lost. But it got a better lead in this. In such a situation, Hooda felt that if Congress gave four seats out of nine assembly seats to AAP in the assembly elections, then it could strengthen its support base.

* In the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat, AAP candidate Sushil Gupta lost the elections in the assembly seats where Congress MLAs or big leaders are there. AAP lost the elections in the areas of Randeep Singh Surjewala in Kaithal, Ashok Arora in Thanesar, MLA Meva Singh in Ladwa and MLA Bishan Lal Saini in Radaur.

* Bhupendra Hooda was busy explaining to the high command throughout that Congress has never formed an alliance with any party in Haryana. Alliance will not strengthen the party but will weaken it. Congress itself is strong in contesting elections.
