Uttar Pradesh Launches ‘Digital Labour Chowk’ App to Connect Workers and Employers

Innovative Initiative by Labour and Employment Department Aims to Benefit Over 10 Crore Workers

Lucknow: In a major step towards promoting employment generation, worker empowerment, and digital governance, the Uttar Pradesh Government has launched the Digital Labour Chowk (DLC) mobile application. The innovative platform was dedicated to the public on June 12, 2026, coinciding with World Day Against Child Labour.

Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board under the Labour and Employment Department, the app is designed to bring workers and employers onto a single digital platform, making the labour market more organized, transparent, and accessible.

The Digital Labour Chowk application enables workers to register using their mobile numbers and create detailed profiles highlighting their skills, occupation, work experience, preferred work locations, and other relevant information. Employers can also register on the platform and post their workforce requirements, job details, work locations, and other employment-related information.

A key feature of the platform is its digital matching system, which connects workers with suitable employment opportunities based on their skills and qualifications. At the same time, employers can identify and engage workers who best meet their specific requirements. The initiative is expected to streamline recruitment processes and improve access to livelihood opportunities for workers across the state.

Officials said the platform represents a significant move towards digitizing labour market services and reducing the gap between job seekers and employers. By making employment opportunities more visible and accessible, the application is expected to enhance workforce participation and improve income opportunities for thousands of workers.

The state already has a substantial labour database that can benefit from the platform. Approximately 8.40 crore workers are registered on the e-Shram portal, while nearly 1.93 crore construction workers are registered with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. Together, this creates a potential beneficiary base of more than 10 crore workers across the state.

The Digital Labour Chowk initiative is expected to strengthen employment linkages, support skill-based job placement, and contribute to the government’s broader vision of inclusive growth and digital transformation. Officials believe the platform will not only facilitate easier access to work opportunities but also help create a more efficient and transparent labour ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.

The launch reflects the state’s commitment to leveraging technology for social and economic development while ensuring that workers, particularly those in the unorganized sector, have greater access to employment opportunities and welfare services.
