The power of positive words: Vastu expert Ajit V Khawad says, “Think before you speak.”

Mumbai: Words are often treated as casual expressions of what is already on our minds. But according to Vastu and astrology expert Ajit V Khawad, what we repeatedly say can influence the energy we create around ourselves. He believes that being mindful of our words, especially during difficult moments, can be an important part of maintaining a positive outlook. He advises people to pause before speaking and ask themselves whether their words are positive or negative.

“Think 32 times before speaking. Am I saying negative or positive?” he says, stressing that people should be particularly careful about expressing thoughts they do not actually wish to manifest in their lives.

According to him, this becomes even more important when a person is going through a difficult phase. Frustration can make people say things they do not genuinely mean, but he believes that such statements should be avoided.

“I’m telling you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, don’t ever say what you don’t want to happen,” he says.

He connects the importance of speech with the belief that there are moments when divine energy is particularly powerful. He refers to the story of Kumbhkaran from Hindu mythology to explain why one should be careful about what one asks for or says.

“There is a moment when Saraswati does Vichran in the universe. She speaks to you,” he says, referring to the traditional belief surrounding Goddess Saraswati and the power of speech.

For Ajit, the larger lesson is simple: even when life becomes difficult, people should avoid making negative declarations about their own lives. “No matter how much struggle you have in your life, you should never say that God gives me death and this and that. No. You should always speak positively,” he says.

The idea, according to him, is not to deny reality but to avoid repeatedly reinforcing a negative expectation. “If you start like this, today’s day will not be good, and you repeatedly think it will go bad, God will do the same,” he says.

His philosophy ultimately comes down to consciously choosing the kind of language one wants to surround oneself with.  For him, positive thinking is not reserved for good days. It is something that becomes even more important when circumstances are difficult.  “Even on the worst day, be very positive,” he ended.
