Focus on Expansion of Healthcare Services, Ayushman Bharat and Medical Education Achievements
Agra/Lucknow: As part of the nationwide campaign commemorating 12 years of the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a seminar for doctors and distinguished citizens was organized at S.N. Medical College, Agra, on Saturday. The event highlighted major developments in healthcare, medical education, public welfare, and social infrastructure over the past decade.
The seminar brought together healthcare professionals, medical educators, public representatives, and members of civil society to discuss the transformation of India’s healthcare sector and the impact of various welfare initiatives. Among those present were Union Minister of State Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, MLA Purushottam Khandelwal, and MLA Dr. G. S. Dharmesh.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel said India’s healthcare ecosystem has witnessed unprecedented growth and modernization in recent years. He noted that the number of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has expanded significantly, while medical education infrastructure has grown rapidly with the establishment of new medical colleges and increased training capacity for future healthcare professionals.
He highlighted the strengthening of district hospitals, wider availability of advanced healthcare facilities, expansion of diagnostic services, and efforts to make quality treatment accessible to citizens across urban and rural areas. He also referred to the impact of the Ayushman Bharat programme, describing it as one of the world’s largest healthcare protection initiatives aimed at providing financial security to vulnerable families.
Speaking on the occasion, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said that the combined efforts of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments have transformed Agra into an emerging healthcare hub. He noted that under various healthcare modernization initiatives, S.N. Medical College has been equipped with advanced medical infrastructure and is now capable of performing complex procedures, including open-heart bypass surgeries.

According to the minister, these improvements have reduced the need for patients from Agra and neighbouring districts to travel to major metropolitan cities for specialized treatment. He added that government programmes focused on healthcare accessibility are helping ensure better treatment facilities for economically weaker and underserved sections of society.
MLA Purushottam Khandelwal highlighted the substantial improvement in medical services, infrastructure, and specialist healthcare facilities at S.N. Medical College over the years. MLA Dr. G. S. Dharmesh, recalling his own association with the institution as a student, said the college has achieved significant milestones in both medical education and patient care.
The seminar also featured discussions on maternal and child healthcare. Speakers noted improvements in healthcare indicators, including reductions in maternal and infant mortality rates. They highlighted initiatives promoting institutional deliveries, immunization drives, and preventive healthcare campaigns aimed at enhancing women’s and children’s health outcomes.
Participants emphasized that continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, medical education, and public welfare programmes will play a crucial role in ensuring accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services for all citizens while contributing to the broader vision of a healthier and more developed India.
