UP Government to Ensure Sangam Snan for 2,000 Senior Citizens at MahaKumbh

(Prayagraj): The Uttar Pradesh government has announced arrangements to facilitate the participation of 2,000 senior citizens in the Sangam Snan (holy dip) at the Maha Kumbh, set to take place by the end of the event.

To ensure the welfare of elderly citizens, particularly those from state-run old-age homes, the state’s Social Welfare Department has collaborated with the National Medicos Organization and the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to set up a special pandal along the banks of the Sangam. This initiative is aimed at providing essential support to underprivileged groups, with a special focus on senior citizens and people with disabilities.

A key feature of this initiative is the Shravan Kumbh, which has been providing assistance to thousands of hearing-impaired individuals by offering free tests and assistive devices, as per the government’s statement.

“For the first time in Maha Kumbh, the Yogi Adityanath government has launched a special camp for the elderly and hearing-impaired. This camp, set up by the Social Welfare Department, offers free tests and assistive devices to those in need,” the statement further added.

The government also emphasized the significant impact of this initiative in improving the welfare of the elderly, particularly residents from old-age homes. Special provisions have been made for their accommodation, including the construction of a 100-bed ashram within the Kumbh area. This facility provides comfortable lodging and arrangements to enable elderly devotees to participate in religious activities, including the Sangam Snan.

As of now, more than 500 senior citizens from various districts, such as Mirzapur, Gonda, Siddharthnagar, Bhadohi, Kaushambi, Hardoi, Sitapur, and Lucknow, have already participated in the Maha Kumbh. The government aims to facilitate the Amrit Snan for 2,000 senior citizens by February 26.

State Minister for Social Welfare, Asim Arun, emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to the safety, health, and dignity of senior citizens.

“The double-engine government is continuously working to ensure the safety, respect, and health of senior citizens across the state,” he stated.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, is set to continue until February 26 at the Triveni Sangam, where millions of pilgrims have been gathering daily. By Monday evening, nearly 35 crore devotees had visited the Sangam, and the government expects the number to surpass 50 crore by February 26, with major bathing dates, such as Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri, expected to attract even larger crowds.
