Dehradun: India and Nepal have begun their 14th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on border management in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, with discussions focused on strengthening border security and infrastructure along the two countries’ shared frontier.
The two-day high-level meeting, being held on August 20 and 21, brings senior officials from both countries together to review key issues concerning border management and explore measures to improve coordination between the neighbouring nations.

The Indian delegation is being led by Paushumi Basu, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Nepalese delegation is headed by Anand Kafle, Joint Secretary in Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
The meeting provides an important platform for India and Nepal to discuss measures aimed at enhancing security along the border while improving infrastructure and coordination between the respective authorities.

The Joint Working Group mechanism is also expected to facilitate closer institutional cooperation between the two countries on matters related to border management and the effective handling of emerging challenges along the shared boundary.
The ongoing discussions assume significance as India and Nepal maintain close people-to-people, economic and cultural ties, with effective border management remaining an important component of bilateral cooperation.
