Washington: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly issued a sharp warning in response to Iranian Foreign Minister’s recent diplomatic visit to Russia, escalating already heightened geopolitical tensions.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump allegedly warned that if Iran does not reach an agreement within three days, severe consequences could follow, including a major disruption to its oil infrastructure. He claimed that Iran’s oil export capacity could be severely crippled, stating that the country would be left unable to sustain its energy exports.
According to Trump, ongoing restrictions have already limited Iran’s ability to transport oil through shipping routes, and any further damage to pipelines would effectively halt exports completely.
The remarks come shortly after Iran’s Foreign Minister travelled to Pakistan and then Russia for diplomatic consultations. Russian media has confirmed meetings between Iranian officials and Russian leadership, including discussions expected with President Vladimir Putin. Reports suggest the Iranian delegation is seeking to present Tehran’s position on ending the ongoing conflict and exploring possible frameworks for peace negotiations.
Trump also criticized the current pace and format of negotiations, suggesting that U.S. representatives would no longer travel for in-person talks and that future communication with Iran could take place via phone calls instead. He further stated that Iran could reach out directly if it wishes to continue discussions.
Earlier, Iran had reportedly submitted a written proposal to the U.S., which Trump said was rejected. He also claimed that a revised version of the proposal had been received, though he did not provide details about its contents.
Meanwhile, diplomatic uncertainty continues to surround the talks. Reports indicate that scheduled peace negotiations in Oman failed to produce significant progress, while planned U.S. delegation travel for further discussions in Pakistan has been cancelled.
Iranian officials, however, maintain that consultations with Russia are aimed at exploring broader frameworks for ending hostilities and advancing diplomatic solutions.
As both sides exchange statements and reassess negotiation channels, the situation remains fluid, with international observers closely monitoring developments in the region.
