Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) produced a dominant all-round performance to crush Mumbai Indians (MI) by 103 runs in the TATA IPL 2026, powered by a commanding century from Sanju Samson and a clinical four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein. The emphatic win once again highlighted CSK’s growing balance between explosive batting and disciplined spin bowling.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live’ and Star Sports’ ‘Amul Cricket Live’, JioStar experts Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, and Aakash Chopra lauded Samson’s match-defining knock, CSK’s spin dominance, and also assessed MI’s continuing struggles and the upcoming RCB vs GT clash.
Suresh Raina praised Samson’s composure and tempo control, noting how the batter “built his innings smartly,” combining patience early on with aggressive stroke play later. “He respected good deliveries, especially against bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, and then capitalised on anything loose. That balance between intent and control stood out,” Raina said, adding that Samson’s consistent scores reflect outstanding form.
Harbhajan Singh went a step further, calling it a special innings built on awareness and responsibility. “Sanju Samson stood out because of his game awareness. He understood the situation, stayed till the end, and adjusted his game after his fifty. With wickets falling around him, he took responsibility and finished strongly. For me, this was one of the finest innings in terms of determination and game sense,” Harbhajan remarked.
He also highlighted CSK’s spin attack, praising their attacking intent rather than containment-based bowling. “They were actually spinning the ball and going for wickets. Akeal Hosein was exceptional, especially in the way he dismissed Suryakumar Yadav. His four wickets were as impactful as Samson’s century,” he added.
On Star Sports’ ‘Amul Cricket Live’, Anil Kumble focused on Samson’s evolving role within the team structure. He pointed out CSK’s historical reliance on strong starts and how Samson has filled that gap effectively this season. “Two unbeaten hundreds in seven matches shows how crucial he has become. He is playing a role similar to what Jos Buttler did for Rajasthan during their peak run,” Kumble said.

Looking ahead to the RCB vs GT fixture, Kumble observed that RCB would aim to recover strongly after a setback against Delhi Capitals, while Gujarat Titans appear heavily dependent on their top order. He stressed that early breakthroughs from bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could expose GT’s fragile middle order.
Aakash Chopra, meanwhile, analysed MI’s continued struggles, especially their batting inconsistency. “They have certainly missed Rohit Sharma at the top. Without solid starts, chasing big totals becomes very difficult. While Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya haven’t delivered enough, Tilak Varma’s hundred was a positive. However, the rest of the batting needs to step up,” Chopra said.
He also flagged concerns in MI’s bowling unit, stating that apart from Jasprit Bumrah, the attack has been inconsistent and expensive, with limited support for standout performers.
The comprehensive CSK victory not only strengthened their position in the tournament but also reignited discussions around form, consistency, and tactical execution as IPL 2026 continues to intensify.
