Lucknow: According to Prof. Dr. Bharat Raj Singh, Director General of the School of Management Sciences, Lucknow, the world today is facing serious challenges such as energy shortages, climate change, and environmental pollution. In this situation, renewable energy, especially solar power, has emerged as a promising solution for sustainable development.
Soon after the implementation of the Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy 2015, Dr. Singh installed a 5 kW rooftop solar system at his residence in Dec 2015 became First person of Lucknow Region and actively promoted public awareness about solar energy adoption . He envisioned more than 4500 Mega Watt growth in solar power generation as Lucknow’s population expanded 50-60 lakhs. SMS has already installed 275 kWatt solar panel in the college campus and became 100% first green campus amongst Institutions.

Today, the initiatives of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh have accelerated the adoption of solar energy. Lucknow is emerging as one of India’s leading solar cities. By October 2025, around 4,271 rooftop solar plants had been installed in the district. The growth continued rapidly, and by April 2026, more than 87,000 rooftop solar installations were recorded in Lucknow, placing it among the country’s top solar-performing districts.
Uttar Pradesh has also achieved remarkable progress in solar energy. By March 2026, the state’s total rooftop solar capacity had crossed 1,524 MW, establishing Uttar Pradesh as one of India’s leading solar energy states and signaling a new green revolution.
