Taiwan keeps a hawk eye vigil on China’s moves

Taiwan

Beijing:  Chinese aircraft and ships have once again been detected around Taiwan. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, six Chinese naval ships, four coast guard ships and two military aircraft have been detected around the country over the course of the past weekend.

According to the MND, two PLA aircraft violated the Taiwan Strait midline of the country’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the northern region. In retaliation, Taiwan responded by monitoring PLA activity with aircraft, naval ships and coastal-based missile systems.

China has been using the gray zone strategy more frequently since September 2020. At the same time, the number of military aircraft and naval ships in the vicinity of Taiwan is gradually increasing.

Tension between China and Taiwan

The tension between the two is at its peak. Despite never ruling Taiwan, China’s ruling Communist Party considers it part of its territory and has threatened to conquer it by force if necessary.

Earlier on May 27, the Chinese Foreign Ministry strongly opposed the recent visit of US lawmakers to Taiwan. Amid the visit of US lawmakers to Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that Beijing firmly opposes military contact between the US and Taiwan as well as any attempt to arm Taiwan.
