Lucknow: Students of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) can now take a free introductory course on artificial intelligence in Hindi. The course, launched under the “India AI Initiative,” has been developed by HCL GUVI and OpenAI in collaboration with AKTU.
AKTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P. Pandey formally launched the Hindi-language AI course at the university on Tuesday. In its first phase, the course will be available to students studying on the university campus. Students of affiliated institutions will also be provided free access in a subsequent phase.
The approximately 90-minute course has been designed in Hindi to make AI concepts easier for students in Uttar Pradesh to understand. AI experts will introduce learners to the appropriate use of ChatGPT and other AI tools, including how to give effective instructions and use AI technology productively for academic and professional purposes.
Speaking at the launch, Prof. J.P. Pandey said the course would be particularly beneficial for students because its Hindi format would make the content easier to understand.
Prof. S.P. Shukla, Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies, said AI is increasingly influencing different areas of life and students need to understand how to use the technology responsibly. He described AI as a technology that can be highly useful but requires careful and informed use, particularly when applied to solving social problems.
Arun Prakash, Founder and CEO of HCL GUVI, explained the structure of the course and said AI has become an important skill for students. He encouraged students to combine classroom learning with project-based work. He also interacted with students and answered their questions. According to him, the initiative aims to train one million students through the course.
Prof. Arunima Verma, Dean of Training and Placement, said AI training would help students strengthen their skills and prepare for changing requirements in education, employment and entrepreneurship.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajiv Kumar, Associate Dean of Innovation Dr Anuj Kumar Sharma, Deputy Controller of Examinations Neha Srivastava, Pratibha Shukla, HCL Group Associate Director and GUVI representative Keerthi Karm Chandani, Apoorva Johri, Abhishek Ahlawat and Saransh Saxena, among others, attended the launch along with a large number of students.
The initiative is aimed at expanding access to foundational AI education while enabling students to learn the technology through a familiar language.
