Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) launched a week-long cleanliness campaign across Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra, with a series of sanitation and public-awareness activities scheduled from September 29 to October 5.
The initiative began with housekeeping games organised for “Safai Mitras” working at metro stations. As part of the annual activity, separate musical chair competitions were held for male and female housekeeping staff. The participants took part enthusiastically, providing them an opportunity to take a break from their routine responsibilities and engage in recreational activities.
UPMRCL highlighted the important role played by housekeeping personnel in maintaining clean metro stations and ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers. Through the games, the corporation sought to recognise their daily efforts while encouraging and motivating the workforce.
During the remaining days of the cleanliness week, UPMRCL officers and employees will participate in cleanliness drives and voluntary labour activities around metro stations and project sites. The programme will also include cleanliness pledges, department-level sanitation campaigns and a fancy-dress programme for children from disadvantaged sections of society.
The cleanliness week will conclude on October 5 with an awards ceremony, where UPMRCL Managing Director Sushil Kumar will present prizes to participants.
Sushil Kumar said cleanliness is a shared responsibility and is particularly important for providing passengers with a safe, convenient and better metro experience. He also acknowledged the contribution of Safai Mitras, who work every day to keep metro stations clean.
The campaign aims to reinforce the importance of cleanliness across UPMRCL’s operations while recognising employees whose daily work contributes to maintaining hygienic and passenger-friendly metro facilities.
