Bishkek/New Delhi: India has stepped up its defence diplomacy in Central Asia, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh holding key bilateral talks with counterparts from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek.
Focus on Kazakhstan Partnership
During discussions with Kazakhstan’s Defence Minister Lieutenant General Dauren Kosanov, both sides reviewed ongoing defence cooperation and explored avenues to deepen strategic engagement. The talks emphasized expanding joint training, military exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security.
India and Kazakhstan have steadily built a strong defence partnership, with both nations aligning their interests on issues of peace and stability in the region.
Strengthening Ties with Kyrgyzstan
Earlier, Singh met Kyrgyzstan’s Defence Minister Major General Ruslan Mukambetov, describing the interaction as productive and forward-looking. The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral defence collaboration and broaden engagement across sectors.
India reaffirmed that its relationship with Kyrgyzstan remains a priority, rooted in shared democratic values and long-standing cultural ties. Defence cooperation continues to be a key pillar of this partnership.

Humanitarian Support Through Medical Aid
As part of the engagement, India presented two sets of BHISHM Cube modular trauma care systems to Kyrgyzstan. These portable medical units are designed to deliver rapid emergency care during the critical “golden hour” following injuries.
The initiative falls under Project Aarogya Maitri, reflecting India’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster response cooperation. The systems are equipped with essential medicines and life-saving tools, enabling quick deployment in emergencies.
Strategic Role at SCO Platform
India’s participation in the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting highlights its proactive role in regional security cooperation across Eurasia. The summit serves as a platform for member states to address evolving security challenges and strengthen multilateral coordination.
Through these engagements, India continues to expand its defence footprint in Central Asia while reinforcing its commitment to peace, stability, and collaborative security frameworks in the region.
