Health Department on High Alert for Holi Festivities

Mathura: As Holi approaches, the Health Department in Mathura has gone into full alert mode to handle any medical emergencies that may arise during the celebrations. The district hospital in Mathura, the District Joint Hospital in Vrindavan, the Women’s Hospital, as well as all Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Primary Health Centers (PHCs), will remain open 24 hours a day. In a proactive measure, doctors and healthcare workers’ leaves have been canceled to ensure immediate medical assistance in case of emergencies. The department has also advised people to take precautions, avoid chemical-based colors, and maintain hygiene in food consumption.

Health Department Gears Up for Holi Emergencies

Given the surge in health issues during Holi, all medical institutions have been placed on high alert. Emergency services will be available round the clock in all hospitals. A sufficient stock of IV fluids, antibiotics, eye drops, burn treatment medicines, and anti-allergic drugs has been secured. Additionally, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, and orthopedic specialists will be available at the district hospital. Ambulance services have been put on high alert to ensure that patients can be transported to hospitals without delay. Considering the changing weather and rising temperatures, essential medical arrangements have also been made at hospitals.

Doctors’ Leaves Canceled Amid Health Concerns

Medical experts warn that many colors used during Holi contain harmful chemicals that can be dangerous for the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. These toxic substances may cause skin irritation, itching, and allergies. Some commercial gulal (colored powder) is mixed with fine stone particles, which can lead to skin infections and eye irritation. Additionally, changes in weather and prolonged exposure to water may cause colds, fever, and respiratory infections. The Health Department has urged people to consume safe and hygienic food, as negligence during festivities can lead to foodborne illnesses.

District Administration Ensures Holi Preparations

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made for Holi. Emergency medical facilities will be available at all three major hospitals, as well as CHCs and PHCs. A sufficient stock of essential medicines has been supplied. Authorities have appealed to the public to celebrate Holi safely—avoid unnecessary exposure to water, stay away from chemical-based colors, and wash hands thoroughly before consuming food. Even a small oversight could lead to health issues.
