Mumbai: In a remarkable display of medical expertise and teamwork, a team of more than 50 doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, successfully saved the life of a 37-year-old Merchant Navy officer who suffered multiple life-threatening injuries in a severe road accident.
The patient was admitted with extensive fractures, a crushed arm, a pulseless limb, and a ruptured aorta—the body’s main artery—making his condition extremely critical. Upon arrival, specialists from trauma care, orthopedics, cardiology, plastic surgery, critical care, and physiotherapy departments coordinated an emergency response.
Doctors initiated surgery within 45 minutes of admission, performing a series of complex procedures that continued for several hours to stabilize the patient. According to Dr. Sameer Chaudhary, the case was among the most challenging polytrauma emergencies handled by the team, with rapid decision-making and multidisciplinary coordination proving crucial to the successful outcome.
After spending nearly a week on ventilator support and undergoing intensive treatment, the officer gradually recovered. He has since progressed from intensive care to rehabilitation and is now regaining mobility.

Hospital officials described the recovery as a powerful example of how advanced medical technology, specialist expertise, and coordinated care can help patients overcome even the most critical injuries.
