‘Shapath’: Theatre Production Highlights Ethical Policing and Constitutional Values

Lucknow: A compelling theatrical presentation titled “Shapath” (The Oath) captivated audiences with its powerful message on integrity, accountability and the responsibilities of law enforcement personnel. Through an engaging blend of drama and social commentary, the play emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional values and remaining committed to justice.

The story revolves around Inspector Vikram and his team, who attempt to portray a petty thief as a hardened criminal. In an effort to justify a stronger case, the officers devise various strategies and begin implementing them. However, as circumstances unfold, they gradually find themselves trapped in the consequences of their own actions.

The narrative takes a decisive turn when veteran constable Guru Prasad, a dedicated police officer with years of service, reminds his colleagues of the oath they took while joining the force. His words echo through the police station, recalling their pledge to uphold the Constitution of India, safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and discharge their duties with honesty, impartiality and patriotism.

The reminder prompts deep introspection among the officers. Inspector Vikram realizes the gravity of his mistake and abandons plans for a fake encounter. Reaffirming his faith in the rule of law, he declares that the police must never forget their duty to serve the public with fairness and integrity.

The play concludes on an uplifting note when the police station receives recognition as the region’s best crime-free station. The honour brings immense pride and happiness to the entire team, reinforcing the message that ethical conduct and dedication ultimately earn genuine respect and success.

The production featured a strong ensemble cast whose performances effectively conveyed the emotional and moral dimensions of the story. Abhishek Kumar Singh Mangal delivered a convincing portrayal of Inspector Vikram, while Ajay Kumar impressed as the conscientious Havildar Guru Prasad. Santosh Prajapati appeared as another havildar, Tarun Yadav played Budhai, the tea seller, and Poonam portrayed Ravina.

The supporting cast included Manoj Tiwari as the senior police officer, Satya Pandey as Ram Khelawan, Omkar Pushkar as the thief, and Mandeep Maurya as a poor villager. Their performances added depth and realism to the narrative, keeping the audience engaged throughout.

By combining dramatic storytelling with a strong social message, “Shapath” underscored the significance of honesty, duty and constitutional responsibility.
