Dharwad: After years of persistent demand from its residents, Dharwad has officially become a separate Municipal Corporation, following a government gazette notification. This move comes after a decision made during the Karnataka Cabinet meeting on January 16, which approved the separation of Dharwad from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).
For decades, Dharwad has struggled with inadequate infrastructure, poor sanitation, and limited facilities due to being part of the larger Hubballi-Dharwad administrative unit. Now, with its own municipal corporation, the city’s residents are optimistic about the potential improvements in governance and development.
The government’s decision has been met with widespread approval from the local community, who have long advocated for a distinct municipal entity. This new development is seen as an opportunity to address the city’s pressing issues more effectively and focus on tailored solutions for its unique needs.
As part of the transition, the government has appointed a temporary administrator to oversee the operations of the newly formed Municipal Corporation. The administrator will be responsible for executing decisions and ensuring that the city’s growth aligns with a planned strategy.
“This is a significant step toward enhancing the city’s infrastructure, providing more facilities, and improving the standard of living for the citizens,” said a local resident. The creation of a separate municipal corporation means Dharwad will have more control over its resources, personnel, and funding, allowing for more autonomy in development decisions.
The state government has also committed to offering financial support to the new municipal body. The funding will be used to upgrade essential infrastructure, such as road development, water supply, and sanitation facilities, to ensure that Dharwad progresses with the times.
Additionally, the government will conduct a detailed survey to identify areas in urgent need of development. A team of professionals will assess the city’s infrastructure and other services to provide a roadmap for future improvements.
With the formation of its own municipal corporation, Dharwad is poised for a new chapter of growth and transformation, aimed at elevating the city’s living standards and fostering a more sustainable future. The government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources for this new venture has instilled hope among residents that their city will finally receive the attention it deserves.
