Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a shift in weather patterns as the strong westerly winds that have been sweeping across the state for the past two days are expected to subside from Saturday. With the decline of these cold winds, daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two to three days. However, nighttime temperatures are expected to remain stable for at least the next three to four days.
On Friday, strong and chilly northwesterly winds reduced the intensity of sunlight across most parts of the state, bringing a noticeable chill in the morning and evening hours. In Lucknow, the cold winds created a pleasant atmosphere, leading to a drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures. For the first time in several days, the nighttime temperature in the city fell below 10 degrees Celsius.
However, meteorologists suggest that this cool and comfortable weather will not last long. According to the Regional Meteorological Center in Lucknow, senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh stated that from Saturday onwards, the westerly winds will weaken, leading to a gradual increase in temperatures and a return of warm weather. No warnings for fog or cloud cover have been issued for Saturday, indicating clear and sunny conditions.
The impact of the westerly winds was also seen in Lucknow’s air quality, which improved significantly on Friday. For the first time in months, air quality monitoring stations in Kukrail, Gomtinagar, and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) recorded air quality in the ‘green’ category. Meanwhile, areas like Aliganj, Talkatora, and Lalbagh reported air quality in the ‘moderate’ category.
As the winds calm down, residents should prepare for rising temperatures, with the winter chill giving way to warmer days in the coming week.
