Gonda Administration Issues Road Safety Guidelines for Sugarcane Transport Ahead of Crushing Season

Gonda: Ahead of the commencement of the sugarcane crushing season in November, the Gonda district administration convened a meeting to strengthen road safety measures for sugarcane transportation. The meeting was held at the auditorium of Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd., Mankapur Unit, under the directions of the District Magistrate and Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee.

District Sugarcane Officer Sunil Kumar Singh and Assistant Regional Transport Officer R.C. Bhartiya met senior officials of Balrampur Chini Mills and transporters to discuss the safe movement of sugarcane from external purchase centres. Officials decided that sugarcane from external collection centres would be transported only through trucks instead of tractor-trailers.

The administration directed transporters to strictly adhere to road safety norms, including displaying reflective “X” tapes on red cloth at the rear of vehicles to improve visibility during the dense winter fog common in the Terai region. They were also instructed not to overload vehicles, prevent sugarcane from protruding beyond vehicle limits, and avoid parking loaded vehicles on roads. In case of a breakdown, transporters were told to use hazard indicators, reflective tapes and appropriate warning signs to prevent accidents.

Officials emphasised that strict compliance with these measures would help minimise road mishaps and ensure the safe transportation of sugarcane during the upcoming crushing season.
