Mexico City: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered a bold and scathing response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on border security, sending shockwaves through political circles. In a sharp rebuttal, Sheinbaum challenged Trump’s vision of a border wall, warning of the global economic consequences if America isolates itself.
“You thought of building a wall, but remember, beyond that wall stand 7 billion people. These people can switch from iPhones to Samsung or Huawei, from Ford and Chevrolet to Toyota, Kia, and Honda. Instead of Disney, they will watch Latin American films, and instead of Nike, they will wear Mexican Panam shoes.”
Sheinbaum went on to caution that if these global consumers stopped purchasing American products, the U.S. economy would crumble from within. She emphasized that in such a scenario, even the U.S. would have to reconsider its stance, adding, “You will come yourself and say—‘Please, take down this wall.’”
The Mexican leader made it clear that while Mexico does not wish for economic confrontation, it will not tolerate being cornered. “You wanted a wall, so now you will get one. But remember, the world is vast, and America is not everything.”
Her remarks have sparked widespread debate, with many applauding her assertive stance against protectionist policies. As tensions between the U.S. and Mexico continue to simmer, Sheinbaum’s words serve as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of global economies.
