New Policy Offers Up to ₹50,000 Reimbursement for Setting Up Weights and Measures Repair Workshops
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new online module aimed at creating self-employment opportunities for technically qualified youth by facilitating licences for the repair of weights and measures equipment.
The online module, introduced under the Policy-2026 for Encouraging Technical Diploma and Degree Holders to Obtain Repairer Licences for Weights and Measures Instruments, was launched on Tuesday by Technical Education and Consumer Affairs Minister Ashish Patel.
The initiative is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s broader strategy to link technical education with employment and entrepreneurship by encouraging skilled youth to establish their own businesses rather than relying solely on salaried jobs.
Speaking at the launch, Patel said the state government is committed to enabling graduates from polytechnics, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and other technical institutions to leverage their technical expertise for self-employment. He said the policy would create new entrepreneurial opportunities while strengthening the state’s skilled workforce.
Under the scheme, eligible diploma and degree holders will be encouraged to establish workshops for repairing weights and measures instruments after obtaining the required repairer licence. The government will reimburse up to ₹50,000 towards the purchase of tools, equipment, and other materials required to set up the workshop.
The policy covers candidates possessing prescribed technical qualifications for repairing electronic weighing and measuring instruments. Eligible qualifications include ITI certificates in Electronics, diplomas in Electronics, Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering, degrees in Electronics, Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering, and B.Sc. degrees in Physics, among other approved technical credentials.
Eligible applicants will be able to apply online through the Nivesh Mitra portal and the department’s dedicated portal to obtain the repairer licence. Once licensed, they can establish their own repair workshops and provide maintenance services for weights and measures equipment. The reimbursement for purchasing essential equipment, including master sets, load sets, and other tools, will be provided in accordance with the policy guidelines.
Patel said the introduction of the online module would make the application process simpler, more transparent, and user-friendly, reducing paperwork and eliminating unnecessary visits to government offices. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and fulfil all prescribed eligibility conditions. The application, verification, and licence issuance process will be carried out in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations.
The government expects the initiative to boost entrepreneurship among technically qualified youth, generate local employment, and improve the availability of certified repair services for weights and measures instruments across Uttar Pradesh.
