Lucknow: On the occasion of World Health Day, which is observed globally on April 7 every year, a Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop was organised at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) headquarters in Lucknow. The workshop was conducted under the joint aegis of the IMA Lucknow and the Department of Anaesthesiology, King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.
Prof. Rajni Gupta, Course Director and BLS + ACLS Instructor, led the session, which focused on imparting essential life-saving skills to the participants. The primary aim of the workshop was to train attendees to respond effectively in medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and other critical situations requiring immediate medical attention.
Basic Life Support (BLS) refers to a set of foundational techniques and skills used in emergency scenarios to provide initial medical care and sustain life until professional medical assistance arrives.
Dr. Sarita Singh, President of IMA Lucknow, extended a warm welcome to the guests. Dr. Sanjay Saxena, Secretary of IMA Lucknow, emphasized the importance of such training programmes, stating, “We will continue to organise such workshops at IMA to equip more people with skills that can help save lives.”
Dr. Monika Kohli, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology, KGMU, was also present at the event. The programme was graced by prominent members of the IMA including President-elect Dr. Manoj Kumar Asthana, Vice President Dr. Anil Kumar Tripathi, and Dr. Alok Maheshwari, among others.
Participants lauded the initiative and shared that the workshop significantly helped them in acquiring vital life-saving skills. They expressed confidence in being able to act effectively in emergency situations following the training.
