Yogi Government Expands Uttar Pradesh’s Power Infrastructure, Focuses on Reliable Supply and Clean Energy

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has expanded its power infrastructure over the past nine-and-a-half years, with investments in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and consumer services, according to a state government statement. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the government has focused on improving electricity availability for households, farmers, industries, businesses and other consumers.

The state currently has 60,858 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and has established 765 new power substations with a combined capacity of 2,05,632 MVA. These include seven 765-kV, 45 400-kV, 173 220-kV and 490 132-kV substations. The government claims electricity availability has reached 99.30 per cent, while transmission losses have been reduced to 3.2 per cent.

Distribution infrastructure has also been expanded, with 60 new 33/11-kV substations established and the capacity of 1,109 substations increased. During 2024-25, 28 new substations were constructed and 576 upgraded. The state successfully met a peak power demand of 31,486 MW, reflecting its efforts to strengthen the electricity network amid rising consumption.

In agriculture, 2.42 lakh private tubewells had been electrified by 2025 under the Chief Minister’s Minor Irrigation Scheme. More than 96,128 farmers have received solar pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme, supporting irrigation and renewable energy adoption.

Consumer services are increasingly being digitised. Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), smart meters have been installed at 59.17 lakh consumer premises, while 2,51,487 households have been electrified. The government has also reported completing electrification of all identified households under the Saubhagya scheme.

Online electricity connections, bill payments and digital grievance registration have been introduced to simplify consumer services. The state is also promoting solar and renewable energy, public charging stations for electric vehicles and green hydrogen.

According to the government, these initiatives aim to strengthen the power supply system while supporting industrial growth, agricultural productivity, employment generation and improved living standards across Uttar Pradesh.
