Bareilly: A human chain was organised at the Maitreyi Women’s Hostel of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, highlighting the growing momentum for women’s empowerment in India.
Led by hostel warden Prof. Nivedita Srivastava, a large number of students enthusiastically participated in the initiative and expressed their happiness over the provision of 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. The human chain symbolised solidarity and awareness regarding increased political representation for women.
Addressing the students, Prof. Srivastava stated that the Act ensures 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies, which would significantly enhance their participation in politics. She noted that although women have excelled across various sectors, their representation in politics has historically remained limited. “This step will open new avenues and encourage women to actively contribute to governance and decision-making,” she said.
She further added that the initiative reflects the vision of Narendra Modi to bring more women into the political mainstream. The students expressed happiness over the move and marked the occasion by forming a human chain as a gesture of support.

The event saw active participation from a large number of hostel residents, who described the legislation as a landmark step towards gender equality and empowerment.
In a message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh termed the Act a historic decision for Indian democracy. He said it would provide women with direct participation in policymaking and strengthen their role in nation-building. He also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Nivedita Srivastava and the students for organising the awareness initiative.
