Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has achieved a landmark milestone in India’s power sector by becoming the state with the highest-ever electricity demand successfully met in the country. The state recorded and fulfilled a peak power demand of 32,348 megawatts (MW) at 10:47 p.m. on June 21, 2026, setting a new national benchmark in electricity supply and distribution.
The achievement surpasses the previous record of 32,317 MW, set by the state of Maharashtra on May 13, 2026, placing Uttar Pradesh at the forefront of India’s energy sector. On the same day, the state also registered an electricity consumption of 67.7 crore units, the highest among all Indian states, reflecting the scale and efficiency of its power infrastructure.
Welcoming the achievement, Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A. K. Sharma described it as a historic moment for the state and credited the accomplishment to the visionary guidance of Narendra Modi and the leadership of Yogi Adityanath.
Sharma said that Uttar Pradesh has been consistently setting new benchmarks across sectors and that the latest achievement in the energy domain reflects the state’s growing capacity and commitment to supporting economic growth, industrial expansion, and public welfare. He noted that the accomplishment represents a significant step toward realizing the vision of a developed Uttar Pradesh and contributing to the broader goal of a developed India.
According to the minister, the state government has undertaken extensive reforms in power generation, transmission, and distribution networks over the past several years. These efforts have strengthened the overall electricity infrastructure, enabling Uttar Pradesh not only to meet the energy needs of the country’s most populous state but also to handle unprecedented levels of demand without disruption.
Despite intense summer conditions and a sharp rise in electricity consumption, the state has continued to provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers across urban and rural areas. Sharma emphasized that maintaining such high levels of service during periods of peak demand demonstrates the resilience and preparedness of Uttar Pradesh’s power system.

He attributed the success to the coordinated efforts of power sector institutions, including Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, the state transmission network, the State Load Dispatch Centre, power generation companies, and thousands of engineers, technicians, officers, employees, and contractual workers who ensure round-the-clock operation of the electricity network.
The minister highlighted that power sector personnel are engaged in continuous 24×7 monitoring, coordination, and maintenance activities to guarantee reliable electricity services for consumers. Their dedication and technical expertise, he said, have played a crucial role in enabling the state to achieve this record-breaking performance.
Congratulating all officials and employees associated with the power sector, Sharma praised their commitment and professionalism in maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply under challenging conditions. He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh would continue to achieve new milestones in the energy sector and further strengthen its position as a leader in power infrastructure and service delivery.
The record-setting performance underscores Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in India’s energy landscape and reflects the state’s expanding capacity to support rising residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial electricity needs while maintaining dependable service standards.
