Lucknow/New Delhi: In a major administrative development, the Government of India has appointed 29 officers of the Uttar Pradesh State Civil Service (PCS) to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) against vacancies determined for the Select List of 2025.
The appointments were made by the President of India under the provisions of the Indian Administrative Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, and the IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954. The officers will be allocated to the Uttar Pradesh cadre and will remain on probation until further orders.
The notification was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India, on June 30, 2026. The select list has been prepared against vacancies that arose between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.
Subsequently, the Uttar Pradesh Appointment Department issued directions to the promoted officers to formally assume charge in the senior scale of the IAS and submit the required joining and relieving certificates.

Key Administrative Significance
The promotion of these officers marks an important career milestone and strengthens the administrative leadership of Uttar Pradesh. Most of the officers were serving in senior positions across districts, development authorities, municipal bodies, revenue administration, election management, taxation, and various state government departments.

The induction reflects the Centre’s approval of the recommendations made in consultation with the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
State Government Directions
In a communication issued by the Uttar Pradesh Appointment Department, Special Secretary Vijay Kumar directed the concerned officers to assume charge in the IAS senior scale in accordance with the conditions laid down in the Government of India notification and to furnish duly countersigned certificates regarding assumption of charge and relinquishment of their PCS posts.
Copies of the order have been sent to the Government of India, UPSC, Jan Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s Office, the Revenue Board, departmental heads, controlling authorities, and other concerned offices for necessary action.
The appointments are expected to further strengthen governance and administrative efficiency across Uttar Pradesh by bringing experienced state civil service officers into the IAS cadre.
