Lucknow/Jammu: Uttar Pradesh athletes delivered an impressive performance at the 15th National Vovinam Martial Arts Championship-2026 held at the Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Stadium in Jammu, securing third place in the overall team championship.
The Uttar Pradesh contingent won a total of 34 medals, comprising 13 gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals, showcasing the state’s strength in the national martial arts arena.
Competing against athletes from various states, Uttar Pradesh players excelled in both the fighting and performance categories, demonstrating their skill, discipline and competitive spirit.
Uttarakhand emerged as the overall champion, securing first place with 71 medals, including 28 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze. Maharashtra finished second with 52 medals, comprising 21 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze. Uttar Pradesh claimed third position with its tally of 34 medals.
At the closing ceremony, Vovinam Association of India National President Praveen Garg presented the team championship trophy to the winning teams and medals to the individual medal winners. Lucknow’s Mansi Jaiswal was named Best Female Referee, while Sunny was declared the Best Player in the senior category.
Indian Team Selection for Asian Championship
The championship also served as a platform for selecting players for the Indian team for the Asian Championship, scheduled to be held in Cambodia from November 23 to 30. A special training camp for the selected players will be organised from October 2 to 10, after which the final Indian team will be announced.
Following the championship, the annual general meeting of the Vovinam Association of India was held, where members discussed the association’s upcoming plans and took necessary decisions by consensus.
Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh submitted proposals to host the 16th National Vovinam Championship.
