UP’s Aashi, Aaira, and Siddhi Enter Semifinals with Upset Wins

Adarsh Bhasin Memorial AITA Championship Series (CS-7) U-18 Tennis Tournament

Lucknow – The second day of the Adarsh Bhasin Memorial AITA Championship Series (CS-7) U-18 Tennis Tournament witnessed five major upsets in the singles category.

In the girls’ quarterfinals, Uttar Pradesh’s Aashi Shamsheri, Aaira, and Siddhi Singh secured their spots in the semifinals with stunning upset victories. Meanwhile, in the boys’ singles, Maharashtra’s Aditya and UP’s Kinjalak advanced to the quarterfinals with impressive wins.

Organized under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association and conducted by SDS (Sports Development Society) Tennis Academy at the Vijayant Khand Stadium courts in Gomtinagar, the tournament saw Aashi Shamsheri claim victory over third-seeded UP player Neeti Dubey in a hard-fought straight-set match, 7-5, 6-4. Aashi showcased powerful strokes and an exceptional service game throughout the match.

UP’s Aaira dominated her opponent, Bihar’s fourth-seeded Sheen, with an outstanding display of forehand and backhand shots, winning 6-0, 6-0.

In another upset, Siddhi Singh of UP outclassed second-seeded Dhurti Dubey, also from UP, with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win, powered by her strong serves. The fourth quarterfinal saw Bihar’s top-seeded Pari defeat UP’s Ikshita 6-1, 6-2 to advance.

Earlier, in the girls’ singles pre-quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Sheen (Bihar), third-seeded Neeti Dubey (UP), Ikshita (UP), Aashi Shamsheri (UP), Aaira (UP), and Siddhi Singh (UP) moved on to the next round. Meanwhile, Bihar’s Pari and UP’s Dhurti Dubey received byes.

In the boys’ singles pre-quarterfinals, UP’s Kinjalak pulled off a major upset by defeating Bihar’s second-seeded Abhishek Singh 6-0, 6-1. Maharashtra’s Aditya also stunned sixth-seeded UP player Ansh Saxena with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win.

Top-seeded Saanidhya D. Dwivedi (UP) secured a straight-set victory over UP’s Kaustubh Singh, 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, third-seeded Rohin Raj (UP) defeated fellow UP player Arjun 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In other matches, fourth-seeded UP player Mehr S. Khosla overcame initial resistance from Kaustubh to claim a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Fifth-seeded UP’s Anuj Kumar edged past Faiz Ali Kidwai (UP) in a closely fought 6-4, 7-5 match.

Additionally, seventh-seeded UP player Aniruddh Kumar defeated Tejas D. Kashyap (UP) 6-1, 6-2, while Delhi’s Hans Anand secured a 6-1, 6-2 win over UP’s Virat Singh to book a spot in the last eight.
