Two Vehicle Thieves Arrested in Lucknow; Five Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the Krishnanagar police in South Zone, Lucknow Commissionerate, have arrested two vehicle thieves and recovered five stolen vehicles, including two e-rickshaws and three motorcycles.

According to police officials, the action was carried out following the registration of two separate theft cases earlier this month. The first case (No. 165/2026) was lodged on April 13 based on a complaint by Natwar Lal Gaur, a resident of Prem Nagar, Alambagh, who reported the theft of his e-rickshaw from outside his residence on the night of April 12. The second case (No. 183/2026) was registered on a complaint by Suraj Verma regarding the theft of his motorcycle (CT-100) from outside his rented accommodation in Krishna Nagar on April 13.

Taking the incidents seriously, multiple police teams were formed under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South). The teams analyzed nearly 400–500 CCTV footages and other electronic evidence, which led to the identification of the accused.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested two accused—Shailendra (20) and Nitesh Kumar Shah (19)—on April 27 from Asharam Bapu Marg. During the initial search, two stolen vehicles were recovered from their possession. Further interrogation led the police to a rented accommodation in Hanskheda, Para area, from where three additional stolen vehicles were recovered.

Police said that during questioning, the accused confessed to stealing two e-rickshaws and three motorcycles from different areas including Krishna Nagar, Mohan Road, Hardoi Road, and Lalbagh Bridge. Verification through the e-challan app confirmed that all recovered vehicles were registered in the names of different individuals.

Investigators revealed that the accused were habitual offenders. Shailendra, in particular, has a criminal history with at least 10 cases of theft registered against him across multiple police stations in Lucknow.

All recovered vehicles include two e-rickshaws and three motorcycles, including a CT-100 and other bikes with registration numbers linked to different cases. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further legal proceedings are underway.

Police officials stated that the swift action highlights their commitment to curbing vehicle theft and ensuring public safety in the city.
