Lucknow: Rural sporting talent received a platform to showcase its abilities on National Sports Day, with the Youth Welfare and Provincial Rakshak Dal (PRD) Department organising a special sports event at its headquarters.
The event was aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talent in rural areas, providing young athletes with guidance and opportunities, and connecting rural youth with the mainstream through sports.
Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director of the department, was present during the programme and interacted with players participating in various competitions. He encouraged the athletes and appreciated their enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
A number of sporting events, including table tennis and badminton, were organised at the headquarters premises. Players participated enthusiastically and demonstrated discipline, competitive spirit and sportsmanship throughout the competitions.
Addressing the participants, Sanjay Singh said there was no shortage of talent in villages and remote areas, but such talent needed the right platform and guidance at the right time.
“Rural and remote areas have immense sporting talent. What is needed is to provide these young athletes with the right platform and guidance at the right time. The Youth Welfare Department is fully committed to channelising the energy of rural youth in a positive direction and preparing them for national and international-level competitions,” he said.
The winning and participating players were encouraged during the event in recognition of their efforts and performance.
The department said such initiatives were aimed at increasing interest in sports among rural youth and encouraging them to adopt a healthy, disciplined and active lifestyle. The programme also highlighted the importance of providing greater opportunities to emerging athletes from rural areas.
