Lucknow: Police in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension area have arrested a 28-year-old man allegedly carrying an illegal pistol, magazine and live ammunition during a checking and patrolling operation.
According to police, the team was alerted to a dispute involving several people near the CMS Tiraha along Shaheed Path. Police reached the spot and conducted checks in the area.
During a search, police allegedly recovered a .32-bore illegal pistol, one magazine and four live cartridges from the possession of Vivek Kumar Chauhan, a resident of Sadarpur Karaura under Gosainganj police station in Lucknow.
A case has been registered at Gomti Nagar Extension police station under Case Crime No. 155/2026 and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act. The accused was arrested from near CMS Tiraha along Shaheed Path and further legal proceedings are underway.
20-Year Sentence in POCSO Case
In a separate development, effective coordination between Gomti Nagar police and the prosecution branch resulted in a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for an accused convicted in a POCSO case.
According to police, the case involved the alleged molestation of a 15-year-old girl in the Gomti Nagar area in 2025. Following the investigation, police filed a charge sheet before the court.
The Special POCSO Court in Lucknow subsequently convicted Manoj Kumar Singh, aged around 47 and a resident of Kushgawan under Bilsi police station in Budaun district, and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000.
Police said the conviction was secured through effective investigation and prosecution under Operation Conviction, an initiative aimed at ensuring stronger legal outcomes in criminal cases.
Further legal procedures in both matters are being carried out by the police.
